edit following line in /etc/nsswitch.conf:

hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] resolve [!UNAVAIL=return] dns
->
hosts: files dns mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] resolve [!UNAVAIL=return]
